Drivers heading north out of Miami-Dade or southern Broward counties should avoid Interstate 95 during the investigation and cleanup of a Sunday morning crash that Florida Highway Patrol says killed two people.

All I-95 northbound lanes are closed. Traffic is being directed off via the exit for Interstate 595/Florida’s Turnpike/US 441/US 1/Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Instead of I-95, northbound drivers should take US 441, the Turnpike or US 1/Federal Highway.

According to FHP Lt. Indiana Miranda, the crash happened around 6:15 am just south of Interstate 595 after a driver “for unknown reasons, lost control of the vehicle” and crashed into the median.

The two people ejected from the car were killed immediately. A third person was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. A fourth person has “incapacitating injuries.”
